Today was pretty great, as far as Wednesdays go.

I know everybody’s all “rah-rah, Hump Day, woot!”…but what does that really mean? The midpoint of the workweek isn’t all that different from Monday or Tuesday. It doesn’t really start to feel like the weekend is close until Thursday. But when Wednesday is a holiday, well, that’s a different story entirely!

I don’t know if I’ve ever actually had Veteran’s Day off before. Most of my jobs have been pretty stingy with the holidays, so it was nice to get today off for a change. And the timing was perfect; Tara’s plane landed at 8:24 last night, so we didn’t get home until late and then we were both pretty wired, so we didn’t crawl into bed until much later than normal. The fact that I didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn this morning was a bonus.

Naturally, I got up at the crack of dawn this morning anyway. #*^$%

But we were able to have a relaxing morning and a great day. After coffee and showers, we headed downtown to Paddy O’Neill’s, where we had a few beers and grabbed lunch. See how much fun we were having?!

Afterward, we hit Black Hills Vinyl and St. Joe’s Antique Mall, and then decided to check out a new place called Pour 54 Taphouse. It’s a self-serve joint where they give you a wristband, which you scan to try any of the 54 beers, wines, or ciders on tap—as much or as little as you want. You pay by the ounce, and even though we killed a couple of hours there, our tab was only $27. Can’t beat that! Pretty innovative concept and a lot of fun. They even had board games, so we played a round of cribbage while indulging in our beverages. Chances of us going back: 10/10.

If every Wednesday were like this one, Hump Day would live up to its billing. My only regret is that tomorrow won’t be a repeat.

Still not sure if I’m writing every day this month…

  1. Oh, that does look like fun. I don’t generally like the taste of alcohol, but I make an exception for cider.

    1. My favorite was actually a blood orange hard seltzer from one of our local breweries. Good stuff!

  4. Holy cow! I may have to visit SD just for that tap house. What a fabulous concept! And $27 for both of you?! As one who always wants to try ALL the drinks, this place was meant for me. They need to expand south, stat.

    1. I’m surprised…nay, SHOCKED…that South Dakota has something the rest of the country doesn’t. When it comes to innovation, we are usually behind the curve!

  6. Two Hours of Boozin looks like it needs to be canvas printed, framed, and hung up on a basement wall. *waggles eyebrows*

Loving the idea of a self-serve, scan as you go, bar. Very innovative!

    1. That would be a very appropriate place to hang such a picture, seeing as how the basement is where we do most of our boozin’!
